Laser therapy

Lasers emit energy in the form of light. The practice has hard tissue and soft tissue lasers, in three different wavelengths.

Dental implants

They replace missing teeth so that they look and work like natural ones, and protect the jawbone from resorption.

The periodontist explains

Frequently asked questions

What does a periodontist do?

A dentist who specialises in the tissues around the tooth: gums, jawbone, root surface and periodontal ligament. A periodontist treats gingivitis and periodontitis, regenerates bone and gum, and places dental implants.

What is the difference between gingivitis and periodontitis?

Gingivitis affects the gums. Periodontitis always develops from it and also attacks the bone around the teeth, with permanent bone loss. It often progresses without pain, which is why early diagnosis matters.

Does periodontal treatment hurt?

It is usually done under local anaesthesia and is generally painless, both during treatment and while healing.

How long does periodontal treatment take?

From two or three weeks up to four or six months, depending on severity. The session plan adapts to your commitments.

How many visits does an implant take?

It depends on the case, but usually no more than seven: examination and treatment plan, placement, stitch removal, and after healing the steps of the final restoration.

How do I look after my implants?

Like natural teeth: a soft toothbrush, interdental brushes and no smoking. They cannot decay, but they can develop peri implantitis, so a check and clean is needed every six months at the latest.

What is tartar?

It is calculus, bacterial plaque that has hardened. It does not cause periodontitis by itself, but it holds plaque and keeps inflammation going. Tartar above the gums is removed by scaling, and below the gums by root planing.

Where does bad breath come from?

In 9 out of 10 cases the cause is inside the mouth, mainly coating on the tongue and gum disease. Treatment targets the cause.

What is the genetic test for gum disease?

A simple test for polymorphism of the IL 1 gene. Cells are taken from the inside of the cheek with a swab and the result comes back in under a week. It helps tailor treatment and how often you are recalled.

I am coming from another city or from abroad. Is that possible?

Yes. Treatment protocols are adapted so that treatment takes few sessions, and the practice is easy to reach from the port and the airport by metro.
